ZAR is #7 in Pouchrated's editors' order (7.3/10), tied on score with FRE and SnusCore. It sells an ultra-thin "AirPouch" in 10 flavors and five labeled strengths from 3 mg to 35 mg, at $4.90 for 20 pouches on its own store. It scores well on flavors and strength range, but it has no FDA marketing order, and we found no public record of a PMTA, which gives it our lowest regulatory score.
21+ only. WARNING: This product contains nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive chemical. ZAR is not FDA-approved to help anyone quit smoking. ZAR's 16 mg and 35 mg pouches contain far more nicotine than most pouches and are not for anyone new to nicotine.
This review is based on ZAR's website, third-party product guides and FDA records as of September 25, 2026. We did not buy or use ZAR products.
ZAR at a glance
ZAR calls its product the "Nicotine AirPouch." According to Roon, it is "the World's 1st less-than-1mm-thin nicotine pouch, powered by DuraPress technology," at about 0.1 mm thick and 0.1 g per pouch. Vaping360 lists its release as May 2025.
Roon reports that ZAR is owned by SS Road Investment HK Limited and made in China. ZAR's own site describes a founding team led by a former tobacco executive but doesn't name the company. Cans hold 20 pouches, according to Roon and Vaping360. ZAR's store ships to the US and Canada, and it also sells nicotine-free Energy and Coffee AirPouches, which we don't rate.
Strengths
ZAR's store lists five strengths: 3, 6, 9, 16 and 35 mg. Five levels earn a 9/10 on strength range, the same as FRE.
Two cautions:
- Not every flavor comes in every strength. On ZAR's product listings, Cola and Fresh Mint are listed in all five, while Berry Vibe and Grape Splash are 6 and 16 mg only, and Strawberry Lush is listed at 16 mg.
- 35 mg is an outlier. It's more than double the 15 mg top of FRE. Our scoring rewards range, not high mg, and more mg means more nicotine per pouch. Nicotine is addictive. We haven't tested how any strength feels, and mg labels don't translate directly across pouch formats.
See strongest nicotine pouches for context and beginner picks for low-strength options.
Flavors
ZAR's store lists 10 nicotine flavors:
- Cola
- Berry Vibe
- Grape Splash
- Watermelon
- Wintergreen Bright
- Fresh Mint
- Strawberry Lush
- Spearmint Fresh
- Citrus
- Lemon Crush
Ten flavors earns an 8/10 on flavor range, second only to ALP (15) in our ranking.
Price and value
| Item | Price | Pouches | Per pouch |
|---|---|---|---|
| ZAR nicotine AirPouch, 1 can direct | $4.90 | 20 | ~$0.25 |
| 15-can bundle, direct | $62.50 | 300 | ~$0.21 |
| 40-can bundle, direct | $147.00 | 800 | ~$0.18 |
ZAR wasn't listed at Nicokick when we checked, so we score it on its own single-can price, as our method allows. At about 25 cents per pouch, it scores 8/10 on value. Roon reports bundle pricing down to about 19 cents a pouch at scale.
FDA status
ZAR is not on FDA's authorized pouch list as of August 21, 2026. According to Roon, ZAR's own materials say "AirPouch and DuraPress describe the format and design; they are not claims that the product is safe, lower risk or medically approved."
We found no public record of a PMTA for ZAR: none of the sources we checked (ZAR's site, Roon, Vaping360 or Clean Nicotine Pouch's PMTA tracker) mentions one. Under our method, a brand with no public record of an application scores 4/10 on regulatory standing, the lowest regulatory score we give. If ZAR publishes PMTA details, we'll update the score.
ZAR vs FRE and ALP
- ZAR vs FRE: tied at 7.3. ZAR has more flavors (10 vs 7) and a cheaper single can direct ($4.90 vs $5.59 at Nicokick), but FRE sells every flavor in every strength and its application is in FDA's pilot program. See the FRE review.
- ZAR vs ALP: ALP has more flavors (15), a conventional moist pouch and an application in FDA's pilot. ZAR is thinner, cheaper per can and has a wider strength range. See the ALP review.
Where to buy ZAR
ZAR sells direct on its official store, with single cans and 15- to 40-can bundles, shipping to the US and Canada. ZAR runs its US affiliate program on Awin. Buyers must be 21+ under federal law. See where to buy nicotine pouches online.
How to use ZAR
Like other pouches, place one between your upper lip and gum, don't swallow it, and throw it in the trash afterward. According to Roon, ZAR recommends about 30 minutes per pouch. Follow the directions on your can, and see how to use nicotine pouches. Keep cans away from children and pets; call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 if a child swallows one.
How ZAR scores
| Criterion | Score | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Flavor range | 8 | 10 flavors (9-10 scores 8) |
| Strength range | 9 | 5 levels: 3, 6, 9, 16, 35 mg |
| Value | 8 | $4.90 ÷ 20 pouches ≈ $0.25 on ZAR's store (not listed at Nicokick) |
| Regulatory standing | 4 | No public record of an FDA application found |
| Overall | 7.3 | Average of the four, rounded |
See the about page for the full rubric. ZAR ranks just below FRE on the same score because FRE's application is in FDA's pilot program.
Who ZAR suits, and who should skip it
- Consider ZAR if you're an experienced adult nicotine user who wants a very thin pouch and a wide choice of flavors and strengths.
- Skip ZAR if regulatory standing matters to you (see ALP or FRE, both in FDA's pilot), if you're new to pouches, or if you want the lowest price per pouch (see Juice Head).
What we couldn't verify
- Whether ZAR has filed a PMTA. We found no public record.
- The company that owns ZAR, which comes from Roon rather than ZAR's own site.
- Prices and strengths for every flavor. Some listings on ZAR's store didn't show a price or strength.
- ZAR's claims about nicotine delivery speed, which Roon quotes from the brand. We don't repeat them as fact.
Verdict
ZAR offers something different, a very thin pouch, with a wide spread of flavors and strengths at a mid-range price. Its score is held back by the lack of any public FDA application, and its 16 mg and 35 mg options are for experienced adults only. If you want a brand further along with FDA, ALP and FRE rank above it. See the full ranking.
